What started as an adventure with less than 100 employees back on April 1st of 2009, has grown into a major enterprise with more than 400 employees working in three locations.
Today RI is a world leading supplier for superconducting and normal-conducting accelerator cavities and systems. Beyond this, we have earned the trust of our clients as a reliable partner for pulsed power systems, XUV/EUV solutions, beamline instrumentation, and fusion equipment. In recent years we have also become a supply chain partner for the semiconductor industry.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their trust in our team and our capabilities. And we thank our employees for their hard work and unwavering dedication!
Without you the success and growth of the past 15 years would not have been possible.
Here’s to the next 15 years!
The pictures showcase some of the highlights from 2009 to 2024. From top left to bottom right:
1: Inner Vertical Target (IVT) for ITER, a precision structure made out of many tungsten mono-blocks which has to withstand the full heat and neutron flux of fusion experiments absorbing the heat and passing it on to the cooling water.
2: Our Pellicle Transmission and Reflection Tool (PRTT). Pellicles used within the lithography scanners of ASML have to pass a thorough quality control. The gold standard for measuring the critical value of transmission and reflection has been developed together with ASML and is sold by RI.
3: The Windowless Gaseous Tritum Source (WGTS) for the KATRIN experiment at KIT: It provides a highly stable beam of electrons from the decay of Tritium and is at the heart of a neutrino mass measurement experiment.
4: The SLS Linac: The Suisse Light Source at PSI is undrgoing an upgrade to SLS2.0 , and the only main component “surviving” the modernisation is the injector linac delivered in 2000 by our predecessor company ACCEL. The first big contract signed by RI was a linac as well and it was based on this successful SLS Linac.
5: 1.3GHz SRF multicell cavities: One corner stone of our success are superconducting multicell cavities used e.g. for X-ray free electron lasers around the world, like Jefferson Lab, European XFEL, SLAC, or Shine, PolFEL, TARLA, and others.
6: 500MHz HOM damped SRF Cavities: Many synchrotron light sources around the world rely on technology made in Bergisch Gladbach. Our 500MHz HOM-damped cavities power the electron beam in major light sources such as ALBA, BESSY, Diamond, PAL, and LBNL.
7: A Double Crystal monochromator: The light generated in synchrotron light sources and Free Electron Lasers has to be guided and manipulated on the way from the source to the user. A double crystal monochromator selects the requested band out of the spectrum of photons generated in accelerator based light sources.
8: LHC will be more luminous after the ongoing HiLumi upgrade because of our CRAB Cavities: This radiofrequency cavity is able to rotate the bunches of protons and anti-protons at CERN, making them move sideways, just like a crab. This helps increase the collision probability between the bunches and thus the information scientists can extract from them.
