We are glad that one of our big projects of the past years, the warm regeneration box (WRB) for the fusion reactor ITER, has safely made its way to Cadarache in the south of France. The WRB is a 5-tonne machine that will help to ensure the proper vacuum conditions in the experiment that aims at replicating the fusion processes of the Sun to create energy on the Earth.
RI Research Instruments has been the main contractor in charge of this piece of equipment, since the signature of the contract in 2018. We had to develop the final design of the equipment and follow its production and delivery. The final design review meeting, held in March 2020, was the last in-person gathering before the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, all the manufacturing and assembly processes had to occur during the pandemic restrictions.
We’d like to thank our customer Fusion for Energy and Cryoworld BV, Velan Inc., and Kraftanlagen Energies & Services for the great collaboration despite the various restrictions.
