If you have followed our RI news releases, you will remember earlier reports on the LightHouse project which constitutes the first industrial use of a high-power linear accelerator based on superconducting RF technology.
Goal of LightHouse is to establish a novel, sustainable method for the production of 99Molybdenum (Mo-99), the world’s most used medical isotope and a unique tool in medical diagnostics.
This novel method is based on an electron accelerator, and RI Research Instruments has been commissioned with the accelerator design and prototyping by the Institute for Radio Elements in the framework of their SMART project.
In the picture, you see the team with the main components of the electron injector in the accelerator bunker. The next step is assembling a functional injector from these components and commissioning it to full specification.
We are very excited about this project and look forward to the first electron beam soon.
