R. Pehlke, mechatronics engineer

How did you come to RI?

I was looking for suitable jobs as a mechatronics engineer. On a job portal, I came across RI. When I researched and found out that RI works on particle accelerators and fusion reactors, I was immediately interested in the position at RI due to my personal interest in these technologies

How was your onboarding process?

The onboarding process was very independent. You were never left alone, but from the beginning, you could work very independently and take responsibility for your own work. It requires a shift in mindset, as you're not just following a set procedure but adapting the process parallel to your work. It takes some getting used to, especially in the beginning. However, once you settle in, it leads to completely autonomous and challenging work. It feels much more rewarding than monotonous work in the "ordinary" industry.

What are you currently doing at RI?

I work in electrical manufacturing at the Dortmund location. At our site, we develop, design, and manufacture electrical systems. Our team's role in this process is the manufacturing of these systems. We work closely with 13 people to produce complex electrical prototypes for various individual and special applications.

What makes RI special to you?

RI has a very unique way of working due to the production of specialized prototypes. Each project is different, and you regularly encounter new challenges. Of course, this can occasionally demand a lot from you. However, it's also never boring or repetitive. Additionally, you work on projects that truly matter, rather than producing the same penny items repeatedly. Moreover, you're part of a highly educated and competent team with whom you can also share laughter and jokes on a personal and interpersonal level. This creates a friendly working atmosphere in the manufacturing department, and it's often simply fun. And you're in a position that is anything but ordinary, boring, or unimportant.
